Diet Drinks will not help you lose weight or inches
Calorie-free Diet Drinks will not help you to lose weight or inches and they are particularly bad for your waistline. Read about the harm done by artificial sweeteners in this excellent article from the Daily Mail. In general it is best to avoid putting synthetic chemicals into your body.
Good, safe, natural ways to lose excess weight and reduce your waist measurement are to cut down on salt/sodium and salty food and to eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. - The natural potassium in vegetables and fruit displaces some of the sodium from the body. The body then loses some of the excess fluid it has been holding in the bloodstream. This extra fluid (water weight) is excreted in the urine and so you lose weight, have more vitality, feel tons better and less bloated, can think more clearly and move more easily, and altogether you will be sooo pleased with your new, healthier, happier self that I hope you will be motivated to make lower sodium intake a permanent feature of your (longer) life...(o: - Read also about safe, natural ways to reduce Fat Retention.

What if it's not too much fat that you are carrying around? What if it's excess water weight?
What is it's not too much fat that you are carrying around? What if it's excess water weight? - That's right. - Have you considered that it could be fluid retention that is your problem? If it's fluid retention it is a simple matter to reduce it. You need to eat less salt and salty food.
Your excess weight is likely to be water weight/fluid retention if you are one of the people who are vulnerable to salt, also known as sensitive to salt. The vulnerable groups include people who take or have taken certain prescribed steroids, including prednisone and prednisolone, or certain other prescribed drugs, women who take or have taken HRT or other oestrogen-containing drugs such as some contraceptive medications, people who take or have taken amitriptyline or other tricyclic antidepressants, or SSRIs like Prozac, people who take or have taken some other psychotropic/psychoactive drugs, pregnant mothers, PMT sufferers and people who ate salt as children.
If you fall into one of the vulnerable groups I have listed or if you ate a high salt diet as a child you will be sensitive to salt. People without this problem can eat salty foods without doing a lot of harm to themselves, because their kidneys will excrete the sodium which is excess to their requirements. But for people sensitive to salt, some of the excess sodium, along with the water it attracts, will enter their blood stream and not be excreted. So they carry extra weight - as water - around with them all the time. They also lose more heat from their bodies because the surface area of their body has increased with the added water, and the rate at which a body loses heat is proportional to its surface area. - They therefore need extra calories to do the extra work and to provide the extra heat. - So their appetite increases in order to obtain these extra calories. - So they may very well eat more to satisfy their genuine need for calories. - If what they eat is salty, then the cycle will repeat itself and they are likely to become obese.
To break the cycle and put the process into reverse, all that is necessary for them to do is to eat less salt. And eating extra potassium by way of fresh fruit and vegetables will accelerate the excretion of the sodium and water and speed up the weight loss. If you want to lose weight, eat less salt!

Get rid of Water Weight by becoming a Salt Shunner!
Yes, that's right: shun the salt! If you are carrying a lot of excess water in your body - feeling heavy, fat, bloated, clumsy and uncomfortable because of fluid retention, you can reduce this problem dramatically by avoiding salt and salty food. You are sensitive to salt/sodium. - It's the sodium that is holding the extra water in your body.
Lose weight by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

PMT Problem? Here's what to do:
To reduce or completely put an end to PMT/PMS/Pre-Menstrual Tension you 'just' need to avoid salt and salty food, because this will cause your body to excrete the excess fluid/water weight that is causing the PMT. Fluid Retention caused by Salt Sensitivity is another way of expressing it. - Read about how to reduce PMT by eating less salt. - I say 'just' eat less salt/sodium, because this is by no means as simple as it sounds, in this modern world in which most of the food on sale in supermarkets is laden with very high concentrations of salt added by the food manufacturers. - Instead of relying on processed food and takeaways, you will need to buy fresh raw food and cook it yourself with little or no added salt. But the great improvement in your health and well-being that this will bring about will prove well worth the effort. - Go on! - Try it and see for yourself!

Have you ever gained a lot of weight in just one day?
Have you ever gained a lot of weight in just one day? - If you have, then you are, perhaps, puzzled at how that could be possible. Here is the answer to the puzzle:
The weight you have gained is water weight, also known as fluid retention, sodium retention or salt sensitivity. It is often caused by pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by doctors. See anti-depressants and other drugs and HRT, Steroids and other drugs. It can also be caused by pregnancy.
You can read on my website about the vulnerable groups that can gain (and lose) weight very rapidly. They include children.
You can lose water weight fast, easily and safely. You can also safely lose excess fat.

Discover fast, safe, effective tips for weight loss without using drugs, counting calories or going hungry
The fastest way to lose excess weight is to cut down on salt/sodium. This reduces water weight/fluid retention.
Other tips include 1) increasing calcium intake, which reduces fluid retention AND fat retention and 2) lowering carbs and increasing intake of healthy saturated fats.
3) Avoid prescribed pharmaceutical drugs as far as you can because they are a major, and increasing, cause of fluid retention/salt sensitivity. See weight gain from amitriptyline and other antidepressants and also weight gain from prescribed steroids, HRT and other prescription drugs.
4) Cut down on bread and processed food. Cook fresh foods instead.
5) Avoid artifical sweeteners, including aspartame, saccharine, sucralose, diet drinks and low calorie drinks.

Dangers for elderly patients who regularly take opioid painkillers
It is often the arthritis sufferers among elderly patients who most regularly take painkillers, because their pain tends to be chronic. Adverse side-effects are not uncommon, especially with the opioid painkillers, which include codeine, morphine, methadone and brand names such as Demerol, Percocet, Percodan, Darvon, , Vicodin, and Lomotil. The side-effects can be very serious, even dangerous, e.g. more fractured bones. Read this report on MedicalNewsToday.
Yet there is a completely safe and very effective way to reduce the pain/severity of osteo-arthritis, and it does not involve taking pharmaceutical drugs. - You just need to avoid salt and salty food as much as you can. - The less salt you eat, the less pain you will experience from your arthritis...(o: And, since you will also lose some excess water weight from your body which salt has been holding there, there will be less wear and tear on your joints, not having to carry so much water around. - So give salt the elbow, and say goodbye both to so much pain and to dangerous drugs. - See salt/sodium in foods.

Sodium foods increase fluid retention; potassium foods decrease fluid retention
So if you are overweight or obese you need to avoid salt/sodium and salty food, and eat plenty of fruit and unsalted vegetables because these are naturally rich in potassium. You will then safely and easily lose excess water weight and you will have much more energy because of not having to carry that extra fluid around with you all the time.

Have you gained weight from taking birth control medication (contraceptives)?
And do you want to lose that extra weight? But you are finding it difficult? - You may be surprised to learn that the sex hormones in those contraceptive medications are steroids, and that some of them have some of the same side-effects on the body as the drugs we more usually think of as steroids.
Oestrogen is the sex hormone in contraceptives that is causing your weight gain. And that weight gain is because the oestrogen is causing some salt sensitivity. That means that when you eat salt you gain some weight because the salt is causing your body to retain water. - You know - water weight. - If you cut down on salt and salty food you will excrete some of that water your body is holding in your blood vessels, and so you will weigh less. You will also feel better and have more energy without all that excess fluid to carry round with you everywhere...(o:

International No Diet Day: that's today, May 6th
That's right: today is International No Diet Day. I hope all dieters are observing it...(o:
But seriously, I urge you to give up dieting, not just for today, but for ever. Dieting is not necessary to lose weight and, indeed, diets do not work. In fact dieting is harmful.
Why do you think people find that diets don't work? - It's because obesity is caused by fluid retention/salt sensitivity, not by eating too many calories. It's not the calories in junk food that make you gain weight; it's the SALT.
We all know people who eat like trenchermen but never get fat. - They are the lucky people who are not sensitive to salt. For them, eating salt doesn't lead to fluid retention because their strong veins can withstand the input of salt/sodium when they eat more of it than their body needs. - Their kidneys do not have a problem dealing with the salt/sodium and they excrete any excess salt/sodium in their urine, along with the water that salt always attracts to itself.
When excess fluid (i.e. excess salt and water) is held in the veins, the extra blood volume obviously adds to a person's weight: water weighs heavily in fact. - So if you are overweight and reduce your salt intake you will shed some of the excess fluid held in your body and will therefore lose weight - easily, safely and fast.
And do not despise the weight lost and think well, it's only water. - Excess WATER is what you need to lose in order to lose weight safely. - You don't want to lose lean muscle/firm flesh. You don't want your skin and bones to become thinner and more fragile. - You don't want to lose your hair.
Believe me: you want to lose excess fluid. - There is a great bonus to losing excess fluid. - If you have fat retention as well as fluid retention, then reducing salt intake also reduces fat retention.
There are no calories in salt - but if you cut down on salt you will easily lose excess weight. If you cut down on calories you will not lose excess weight.

What really causes obesity?
Fluid retention is the pre-eminent cause of obesity, and the main cause of fluid retention is salt sensitivity. In children a high salt intake causes salt sensitivity/fluid retention/obesity. In adults it is sometimes the result of eating salt and salty food during pregnancy, when altered hormone levels make the body vulnerable to salt. It is most dramatically and tragically caused by the taking of injudiciously prescription drugs such as steroids, HRT and certain tricyclic antidepressants.
The way to reduce obesity is to abandon the dieting fallacy and address the fluid retention by severely cutting down on salt/sodium intake and eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables as these help to remove from the body some of the excess sodium and its accompanying water.

Which prescription drug/s caused your weight gain? - Steroids? HRT? Anti-depressants? Anti-psychotics? Anti-epilepsy medication? Painkillers? Or what?
The weight gain is from fluid retention: extra blood volume. It's also known as sodium retention, water weight, sensitivity to salt, oedema, bloating, and some other names. It can be reduced by avoiding salt and salty food.

NHS prescriptions for obesity drugs have increased by 21% in three years
The Telegraph reports that NHS prescriptions for obesity drugs have increased by 21% in three years, and an ill-informed Don Foster, the Liberal Democrat culture, media and sport spokesman, is claiming that increased levels of exercise would reduce the weight of obese people. - Sorry, Mr Foster - you're wrong.
It's incredible that otherwise intelligent people persist in flogging the same dead horses over and over again and fail to recognise that these dead horses - 'eating too much' and 'not taking enough exercise' - are not only dead, but stinking dead, and spreading corruption.
NHS staff should not be prescribing dodgy pharmaceutical drugs to reduce obesity; they should be telling the truth about how obesity is caused and advising obese people to abandon dieting (dieting is ineffective, unnecessary and often harmful) and instead concentrate on cutting down on salt and salty food.
The fact is that obesity is caused by fluid retention, not by overeating or by not taking enough exercise. Almost everyone who is overweight is sensitive to salt and this means that for them, eating salt leads to some salt retention and thirst and a lot of the water in whatever they drink tends to get retained by the body. Slim people haven't got this salt sensitivity problem. Their bodies excrete any excess salt and excess water in the urine. This is why they remain slim. The overweight people have excess salt/sodium and water in their blood stream. If they substantially reduce their intake of salt and salty food they will lose weight fast and safely, without dieting or going hungry, and will feel much better and have more energy.
Prescription drugs including many steroids, many antidepressants, anti-psychotics and epilepsy drugs as well as other pharmaceuticals, are a major cause of fluid retention/obesity and especially of morbid obesity. - Avoid taking prescription drugs unless they are absolutely necessary.
Furthermore, the fluid retention problem often leads on to fat retention - which, surprisingly, is not caused by eating too much fat, but by mineral deficiencies, principally calcium deficiency. - Read on:

Misguided WHO researchers mistakenly conclude that greed is the explanation for the 'obesity epidemic'
The Telegraph reports that greed, not laziness is the explanation for the 'obesity epidemic', but in fact the explanation lies in neither greed nor laziness, nor a combination of the two. The researchers studied data from the US from the 1970s and the early 2000s, and found that the diet of children contained 350 more calories, while adult diets rose by 500 calories. You do not need to reduce calorie intake or to take more exercise in order to lose weight. Obesity is not caused by over-eating. - You know that already if you think about it. - You see lots of slim people eating like there's no tomorrow and they don't put weight on, so clearly eating too much is not the cause of the 'obesity epidemic'. Obesity is caused by a combination of salt sensitivity and salt intake. - Only people who are sensitive to salt become fat/overweight/obese. This happens because for them, salt is very harmful: it holds excess water in their bodies. This is often called fluid retention or oedema. The veins swell and the skin gets thinner as it stretches to accommodate the swollen veins. Reducing calories does not help with these problems. It is irrelevant to them. - Reducing salt is what helps. - By eating less salt and salty food you can easily and swiftly lose some of the excess water and thus lose weight - a lot of weight, since water is heavy.
But calorie excess is not the cause of obesity. - The relevant changes from the 1970s to the early 2000s are a bigger salt intake, mainly from convenience foods and ready meals, a smaller intake of fruit and vegetables, and a huge increase in the consumption of prescription drugs, so many of which cause sodium and water retention/salt sensitivity/fluid retention/water weight/weight gain.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it!

Do you think that bribing overweight people to lose weight is likely to work? - I don't.
The NHS thinks
that paying overweight people to lose weight and keep it off for 6 months will cost less than dealing with the health problems caused by being overweight. I doubt that payment for weight loss will produce any lasting reduction in obesity because in order to lose excess weight people need to be told the truth about how to do it. The present advice that the NHS gives is to cut down on sugar, fat and calories and increase exercise. Following this advice does not reduce weight. - Dieting tends to increase weight, actually.
Obesity is not caused by over-eating. - You know that you see lots of slim people eating like there's no tomorrow and they don't put weight on, so clearly eating too much is not the cause of the 'obesity epidemic'.
Obesity is caused by a combination of salt sensitivity and salt intake. - Only people who are sensitive to salt become fat/overweight/obese. Adverse side-effects from pharmaceutical drugs are very common. If, for instance, you gain a lot of weight after starting to take a pharmaceutical drug, it is most likely that it is the result of taking the drug, and the weight gain would be reduced by reducing salt intake, since the weight that is gained is mainly salt and water. My website explains all about this.
