In the Telegraph's Pictures of the Day today, the very first picture is of a two year old Chinese girl, Pang Ya, who weighs a massive 41.5kg (6.5st), although she was normal weight at birth.
I hope you can recognise the tell tale signs of thin skin and huge fluid retention? - Her poor vastly swollen face is beetroot red, which is a clear indication that the skin is thin and is so overstretched as to be near transparent, and that we are really seeing the vastly distended blood vessels beneath. Her poor eyes are barely able to open. And see how terribly swollen her poor feet are beneath their covering? - From my own experience, I can tell you without needing to see the feet themselves, that like her face, the skin will be taut and overstretched, and that dark red veins near to the skin's surface will be making her feet look red or purple or near-black. And I can tell you that they will be very painful, especially if she ever tries to walk on them, with her heavy weight pressing on those swollen veins. And when she lies down the pressure on her face will increase. Poor, poor girl! Her problem is massive fluid retention/salt sensitivity/morbid obesity/oedema/abnormally high blood volume. She must be in constant pain from those swollen veins and thin skin. She needs to be fed food that has NO ADDED SALT. She will certainly not live long if she is fed salty food and she will be in preater and greater pain.
Salty food is what causes babies and toddlers to become fat. But Pang Ya's obesity is so extreme that I strongly suspect that sometime in her short life she has been treated with one of the many prescribed medications that cause fluid retention and are even more harmful to children than to adults. Doctors around the world tend to be very ill-informed about the side-effects sodium retention and water retention which inevitably cause obesity unless salt intake is kept very low indeed.

Misguided WHO researchers mistakenly conclude that greed is the explanation for the 'obesity epidemic'
The Telegraph reports that greed, not laziness is the explanation for the 'obesity epidemic', but in fact the explanation lies in neither greed nor laziness, nor a combination of the two. The researchers studied data from the US from the 1970s and the early 2000s, and found that the diet of children contained 350 more calories, while adult diets rose by 500 calories. You do not need to reduce calorie intake or to take more exercise in order to lose weight. Obesity is not caused by over-eating. - You know that already if you think about it. - You see lots of slim people eating like there's no tomorrow and they don't put weight on, so clearly eating too much is not the cause of the 'obesity epidemic'. Obesity is caused by a combination of salt sensitivity and salt intake. - Only people who are sensitive to salt become fat/overweight/obese. This happens because for them, salt is very harmful: it holds excess water in their bodies. This is often called fluid retention or oedema. The veins swell and the skin gets thinner as it stretches to accommodate the swollen veins. Reducing calories does not help with these problems. It is irrelevant to them. - Reducing salt is what helps. - By eating less salt and salty food you can easily and swiftly lose some of the excess water and thus lose weight - a lot of weight, since water is heavy.
But calorie excess is not the cause of obesity. - The relevant changes from the 1970s to the early 2000s are a bigger salt intake, mainly from convenience foods and ready meals, a smaller intake of fruit and vegetables, and a huge increase in the consumption of prescription drugs, so many of which cause sodium and water retention/salt sensitivity/fluid retention/water weight/weight gain.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it!

Do you think that bribing overweight people to lose weight is likely to work? - I don't.
The NHS thinks
that paying overweight people to lose weight and keep it off for 6 months will cost less than dealing with the health problems caused by being overweight. I doubt that payment for weight loss will produce any lasting reduction in obesity because in order to lose excess weight people need to be told the truth about how to do it. The present advice that the NHS gives is to cut down on sugar, fat and calories and increase exercise. Following this advice does not reduce weight. - Dieting tends to increase weight, actually.
Obesity is not caused by over-eating. - You know that you see lots of slim people eating like there's no tomorrow and they don't put weight on, so clearly eating too much is not the cause of the 'obesity epidemic'.
Obesity is caused by a combination of salt sensitivity and salt intake. - Only people who are sensitive to salt become fat/overweight/obese. 'A pint of pure water
Weighs a pound and a quarter.'
Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

The more overweight you become, the thinner your skin becomes, and the more likely your inner thighs will be to chafe as you walk.
Chafing is very painful...)o: It can cause sores and bleeding.
People suffering from chafing need underwear that has little legs so that the fabric takes the friction when there is rubbing, rather than the delicate skin of the inner thighs.
There are twin enemies for heavily overweight people, especially if they are overweight/obese as the result of taking prescription drugs like tricyclic antidepressants, steroids or antipsychotics. - These enemies are friction - which harms the thin skin - and pressure - which hurts the weakened, distended blood vessels. So it's best to avoid tight clothing and belts, and to have plenty of soft cushions for comfort.
When you turn on your side in bed it may be too painful for your knees so you may find it helpful to place a soft pillow or cushion between your knees.
Here is what to do about the overweight/obesity itself:
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better! If you don't want wrinkles when you are older it would be best to avoid repeated dieting...
Dieting makes your skin thinner and so it will wrinkle more readily. And dieting weaken your bones so that they fracture more readily. You don't need to diet to lose weight; you just need to cut down on salt and salty food. This is the safe, sure, fast way to lose excess weight.
Obesity is NOT caused by overeating and/or inactivity. It is caused by fluid retention, frequently because of taking prescribed medications, especially steroids such as prednisolone, prednisone and HRT, and anti-depressants such as amitriptyline/Elavil. (When doctors prescribe drugs that cause sodium retention and water retention they should warn the patient not to eat salt, or food containing salt, while taking the medication. When they do not give this warning, the inevitable consequence is considerable weight gain.)
Obesity can be easily reduced by seriously reducing your salt/sodium intake and eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables. It is important not to restrict calories. - 'Slimming' or 'dieting' is unnecessary, ineffective and often harmful.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

Is persistent intolerable itching making you scratch so hard your skin could even bleed? - This may help...
Your skin may have become thinner and more sensitive because of being overstretched by weight gain/fluid retention/salt sensitivity and/or weakened by dieting. - Reducing fluid retention would reduce the weight gain and relax the overstretched skin and thus reduce the itching. - To do this you need to avoid salt and salty food. - It's as simple - and as difficult! - as that... Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, angina, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!
See Health problems associated with salt sensitivity and fluid retention
Another cause of intolerable itching (especially vaginal or vulval itching: BV, Bacterial Vaginitis/Bacterial Vaginosis) can be a yeast/fungal infection/Candida/Thrush which may have resulted from taking penicillin or some other antibiotic which has altered the balance of your gut flora. Alternative home remedies for this variously include wearing cotton underwear and trying to improve the balance of the vaginal flora by eating less sugar, by eating probiotic yogurt or by applying the yogurt directly to the vagina. By a happy coincidence, eating dairy yoghurt also reduces excess weight by increasing the excretion of fat from the body via the faeces. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truthaboutfood/slim/calcium.shtml where you will read: "a high calcium intake increases the excretion of fat in the faeces". – In fact, the researchers found that twice as much fat was excreted on a high calcium intake as on a low calcium intake – and this was independent of calorie intake. – They also found that dairy calcium (they suggest eating yoghurt) is a particularly good source for this extra calcium.

Do you suffer from steroid-induced rosacea? - You can reduce its severity by cutting down on salt/sodium and salty foods.
As well as causing/exacerbating rosacea, prescribed topical steroid creams can cause salt sensitivity, skin thinning and fluid retention. It's best to avoid them.

Was your skin once white (or tanned) and now it is red (e.g. red face) or pink (e.g. pink arms) or purple/blue (e.g. purple feet)? - Read on...
You have become sensitive to salt - maybe from prescribed steroids, HRT or antidepressants, maybe as a result of eating salty food during pregnancy, maybe because of dieting...
Your skin has become thinner, and the colour - red/pink/purple/blue - is from the blood vessels beneath the surface... Have a look at my website http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/.html (The site does not sell anything and has no banners or sponsors or adverts - just helpful information.)

EU bans misleading 'sunblock' labels
EU bans misleading 'sunblock' labels - Telegraph
Extract:
"The European Commission is to ban creams that are described as offering total protection from the sun.
It fears that sunblocks which say they offer "100 per cent protection" or other similar claims lull customers into a false sense of security.
No sunscreen can deliver total protection from the effects of the sun, which include premature ageing and skin cancer.
By next summer, all sun creams will have to display the sun protection factor rating as well as whether they offer low, medium, high or very high protection from ultraviolet light.
Meglena Kuneva, the EU consumer affairs commissioner said: "Consumers need clear, accurate information on sunscreen products.""
You can reduce your sensitivity to the sun by cutting down on your intake of salt and salty food - especially if your skin is thin/fragile.
Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!
