Internet gambling adverts 'recipe for disaster' - Telegraph
Extract:
"Government plans to allow internet gambling advertisements on television for the first time were branded a "recipe for disaster" last night by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
In an uncompromising intervention, the Royal College last night called on ministers to halt plans to lift restrictions on gambling adverts until they were sure that new regulations governing the online industry worked.
In a formal submission to the Government, the Royal College voiced concern about the thrust of the Government's gambling policies, in particular its "disingenuous" notion of promoting "responsible gambling".
It called on ministers to give "overriding attention" to producing tougher regulations on the burgeoning online gambling industry and said plans to deregulate gambling advertising should be postponed.
Under the Government's plans, gambling adverts can be shown on television after the 9pm watershed, though they will also be allowed during sporting events screened earlier in the day."
I usually deplore the pronouncements of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, but I'm certainly with them on this.
