"The compulsory addition of folic acid to bread moved a step closer yesterday in a move that could save dozens of babies every year from being born with serious disabilities.
Scientists at the Government's food watchdog indicated they will next week approve the fortification of wheat flour, a move which many doctors and charities say would lead to a major reduction in the number of babies developing spina bifida or other birth defects and prevent hundreds of abortions."
