Despite its expense and unpleasant side-effects, alli, the 'slimming' drug, causes weight loss of only 2.5kg a year!
Obesity drug 'causes only limited weight loss'
article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"Alli, also known as orlistat, causes slimmers to lose only around 5.5 lb (2.5kg) a year, according to an editorial in the Lancet."
So, despite its expense and very unpleasant side-effects, alli, the 'slimming' drug, causes weight loss of only 2.5kg a year! - Yet if obese people simply avoid eating salt and salty food they can easily lose more than 6kg in the first month without hunger and with no adverse side-effects whatsoever!
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

A new obesity wonder drug can cause twice as much weight loss as current treatments, a new study claims. - Don't fall for it! - Just eat less salt!
New obesity drug 'can double weight loss'
Article in the Telegraph
Extract: - the claim:
"The new drug works by restricting feelings of hunger in the brain.
As a result, patients eat less and their bodies start to burn off reserves of fat.
Scientists at the University of Copenhagen tested the drug, called tesofensine, on 203 patients, who each weighed an average of 15 stone.
Taking the drug at a dose of 0.5 mg just once a day for six months, at the same time as eating a healthy diet, produced an average weight loss of 11.3 kg, or 1 st 10 lb, around twice that of standard weight loss drugs."
Extract: - the warning:
"Prof Steve O’Rahilly, an expert in obesity at the University of Cambridge, said: “The results with this new drug demonstrate that, over a 6 month period, it is quite effective. However as the drug is likely to have actions on parts of the brain not involved in weight control, the risk of serious side effects on longer term administration will need to be watched very carefully.”"
The facts:
All that is necessary to reduce obesity is to give up dieting and to avoid salt and salty food in order to reduce the fluid retention which is the cause of obesity. - HUNGER AND CALORIE REDUCTION ARE ARE HARMFUL, UNNECESSARY AND INEFFECTIVE - BECAUSE CALORIES ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. - DON'T FALL FOR THE CALORIE CON!
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

A woman whose daughter died after taking a rare fat-burning drug she bought over the internet has warned of the dangers of unlicensed slimming pills.
Mother's warning after woman dies from fatal dose of fat-burning drug DNP
Article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"Anjennis Waldrond spoke out after an inquest heard how her daughter Selena was poisoned by a fatal dose of Dinitrophenol – known as DNP – which she bought from a Chinese website in a desperate bid to lose weight.
Selena, 26, of Croydon, south London, was found in a freezing bath trying to cool her body, on August 19 last year, after taking a large dose of the drug.
Croydon Coroner's Court heard that she was rushed to hospital "sweating, agitated and running a fever" but died later that day.
Speaking after the hearing her mother warned: "Selena's life has been cruelly snatched away, all because she was desperate to lose weight.
"DNP is lethal. Please do not take it. If you want to lose weight, do it the sensible way.
"Not a day goes by where I do not think about my beloved daughter.""
It is tragic that obese people are driven to such measures because the medical profession and other 'experts' have for many years been giving dangerously harmful, incorrect information about the causes of obesity and how to treat it...)o: -
Obesity is not caused by overeating/too many calories/carbs or by eating too much fat or taking too little exercise. - It is caused by fluid retention.
It affects the groups of people who are sensitive/vulnerable to salt/sodium. - Reducing salt intake reduces fluid retention and so reduces excess weight safely and rapidly. - Dieting, i.e. eating fewer calories than your body requires, increases fluid retention because it weakens the blood vessel walls and so dieting usually causes weight gain, not weight loss. Dieting makes you tired, cold and hungry; it weakens your bones and makes your skin thinner; it causes hair loss.
Dieting and/or taking so-called slimming drugs is harmful and does NOT reduce obesity.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, angina, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

A new pill is being developed. It is claimed it can help dieters lose an average of a 21 pounds over six months - but of course it isn't safe...)o:
Diet pill hailed an alternative to obesity surgery
Telegraph article
Extract:
"Tesofensine, which alters the brain chemicals controlling appetite making a patient feel full, has been hailed as a possible alternative to gastric banding, surgery or stomach stapling in the fight against obesity.
But there are some concerns about the drug, which could be on the market, in three years time. Side-effects include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, insomnia and an increased heart-rate, which could cause problems for the obese, who are already at risk of cardiac disease.
Professor Arne Astrup, the International Association for the Study of Obesity president, said: “You could easily come up to 20 per cent weight loss which could offer an alternative to the surgical treatment of obesity which has become the only real cure or effective treatment that can provide a weight loss of that size.”
The professor is not telling the truth. - The most reliable, effective, easy, quick way to lose excess weight is to stop eating salt and salty food. - By giving up salt and salty food - and giving up dieting and counting calories - an obese person can EASILY AND SAFELY lose up to 14 pounds (a stone) in a month. One person, Joyce Barnard, easily lost 70 pounds (5 stones) in a year by giving up dieting and simply avoiding salt and salty food.Read my Mensa article Obesity and the Salt Connection
All that is necessary to curb the growing incidence of obesity is to tell the truth about what causes it! - Obesity is NOT caused by overeating. It is caused by fluid retention, frequently because of taking prescribed medications, especially steroids such as prednisolone, prednisone and HRT, and anti-depressants such as amitriptyline. (When doctors prescribe drugs that cause sodium retention and water retention they should warn the patient not to eat salt, or food containing salt, while taking the medication. When they do not give this warning, the inevitable consequence is considerable weight gain.)
Read here about the groups of people who are vulnerable to salt: vulnerable groups
Obesity can be easily reduced by seriously reducing your salt/sodium intake and eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables. - It is important not to restrict calories. - 'Slimming' or 'dieting' is unnecessary, ineffective and often harmful.
Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

Which are the best and safest slimming pills?
Strangely enough, you don't really need pills to lose excess weight. You can lose excess water weight (fluid retention) simply by avoiding eating salt/sodium and salty food and making sure you eat plenty of fruit and unsalted vegetables, and you can reduce excess fat (fat retention) by making sure you have plenty of dairy calcium (and vitamin D) and other minerals.

But if you are VERY overweight and water-logged because of taking prescribed steroids (like prednisone and prednisolone and HRT) or prescribed antidepressants (like, notoriously, amitriptyline) or other dangerous prescription drugs, then you may feel you need a bit of pharmaceutical help. In this case, the correct therapy is a thiazide diuretic like bendrofluazide/bendroflumethiazide in low dose. This has the same effect as lowering salt intake, because it removes sodium and water from the body. Unfortunately it also has the undesirable effect of removing potassium from the body, so it is not as safe as simply cutting out salt, and high dose is certainly not a good idea. But it is much safer than most pharmaceutical drugs and it certainly removes excess water which is the primary cause of the overweight and it lowers high blood pressure and has other good effects.

Professor Steve Bloom has developed a new 'diet drug' (i.e. pharmaceutical junk) with which to harm obese patients.
Diet treatment ready for human trials
Extracts from the Telegraph:
"A new generation of diet drug which could be as effective as weight-loss surgery could soon be on the market after the announcement that it was ready for human trials.
Scientists believe the drug, which creates a false feeling that a person is full, could offer a breakthrough in the treatment of obesity, which is predicted to reach epidemic levels in the coming decades."
"It has been developed by Steve Bloom, a medical professor at the university, who has produced a synthetic version of a hormone called oxyntomodulin, which is known to help obese patients reduce their food intake."
More junk science, predicated on the false belief that obese people become obese because of overeating and will lose excess weight by dieting/undereating...)o: - Obesity is actually caused by fluid retention/salt sensitivity and can easily, swiftly AND SAFELY be reduced by avoiding salt and salty food.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

Over the counter version of slimming pill, Alli, is going to be made available from pharmacists.
Slimming pill to be available from chemist
From the Telegraph:
"GlaxoSmithKline has applied for a lower dose of its anti-obesity drug Xenical to be made available under the supervision of chemists.
The new version of the drug, called Alli, has a lower dose of the active ingredient orlistat and has been available without prescription in the US since June.
People taking it three times a day for 12 weeks were twice as likely to have lost at least 10 per cent of their bodyweight, but experts warn the weight may creep back on once the course is finished."
"Xenical works by stopping the body absorbing fat from the diet, but reported side effects include headaches, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, depression and fatigue."
There is no need at all to take this pharmaceutical junk with its unpleasant side-effects in order to lose excess weight. Nor is it necessary to diet to lose weight. - Dieting is harmful and ineffective. - Overweight people can lose weight fast and completely safely by cutting out salt and salty food.Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

A daily slimming pill, Acomplia, taken by about 10,000 British patients may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and other psychological symptoms.
Slimming pill 'linked to thoughts of suicide' - Telegraph
The pill is rimonabant, also known as Acomplia and as Zimulti.
Extract:
"A daily slimming pill taken by about 10,000 British patients may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and other psychological symptoms.
The drug rimonabant, sold as Acomplia in the UK and available only on prescription, was hailed as a "wonder drug" when it was approved for use in Europe last year.
Research suggested almost four in 10 overweight people who take it lose 10 per cent of their body weight.
However, it emerged yesterday that the drug was unlikely to be approved in America because of fears over the possible psychological effects on users. Dr Amy Egan, an American medical officer, told experts advising the Food and Drug Administration that medical trials had suggested that patients taking the drug report side-effects including depression and anxiety."
There is no need at all to take slimming pills to lose excess weight. - You can lose weight fast, safely and easily, without hunger, by simply cutting out salt and salty food from what you eat. - This reduces fluid retention, which is the cause of obesity.
