Soaring drugs bill 'threatens to bankrupt NHS'

I have copied and pasted the following, with the Comment paragraph, from Dr Rath's newsletter. I fully concur with Dr Rath's views on this matter. My personal strongly-held, sincere belief is that pharmaceutical drugs do far, far more harm than good and are the cause of most of the avoidable illness in the world. They are a major cause of obesity, and in particular, of morbid obesity. They have certainly done me great harm: destroyed my life, health and happiness, and I would urge caution on everyone contemplating taking prescribed medication. Check it out as thoroughly as you can before deciding whether to take it.

The NHS risks bankruptcy from a soaring drugs bill which is outstripping Britain's GDP growth according to a report. The report, by the pressure group Compass, calls for regulation of the pharmaceutical industry to curb prices. The coalition of academics, campaigners and union leaders also warns that the billions spent by big pharma on seminars and conferences gives companies undue influence over doctors.
Read article in the Guardian (UK)
Comment: If the health service in the UK - where the government can still negotiate drug prices - is risking bankruptcy, what chance do other countries stand of avoiding a similar fate? In the U.S., for example, the government has already capitulated to the pharma mafia and essentially pays whatever the drug cartel wants. Meantime, whilst its annual sales now total 773 billion dollars, adverse reactions from the cartel’s drugs continue to kill and injure millions of innocent patients each and every year. In the U.S., it has been estimated that a staggering 2,216,000 hospitalized patients have serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) each year, whilst 106,000 have fatal ADRs. This means that such reactions are between the fourth and sixth leading cause of death in that country. Meantime, the drug cartel spends billions of dollars every year disingenuously marketing its drugs to doctors under the guise of "continuing medical education", whilst, at the same time, omitting to mention that most of them cause a multitude of new diseases as a result of their known long-term side effects. And, of course, as if all this were not bad enough, the cartel is holding over six-billion people hostage by doing everything it can to eliminate the non-patentable natural alternatives to its products. Fraudulent claims were made about cholesterol-lowering drug.

Extract from http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/THE_FOUNDATION/vitorin_study_2008jan.html

"Hundreds of millions of people worldwide (100 million in the USA) again have their health and lives put at risk in order to increase profits for the drug companies!

Newly released information about the study with Vytorin, a widely prescribed cholesterol lowering drug, reveals that the drug does nothing to reduce plaque build up in the arteries. Just the opposite – using Vytorin doubled plaque growth and led to an increase in heart attacks and strokes. The study, conducted on 720 patients (most in the Netherlands) with high blood cholesterol levels, tested the effects of Vytorin (a "multi-drug" combining Zocor, a statin which inhibits cholesterol production in the liver; and Zetia, a drug that inhibits cholesterol absorption in the intestine). Although Vytorin lowered cholesterol levels in the blood by about 20% more than Zocor alone, it did not show any beneficial effects on slowing down progression of heart disease - it worsened it! Although some people may be surprised with the result, we at the Dr. Rath Research Institute are not.

More than a decade ago, Dr. Rath presented scientific evidence that indiscriminate lowering of cholesterol does not prevent heart attacks and strokes. This is because high cholesterol is a symptom but not the cause of heart disease. The production of cholesterol increases in response to weakening of the structure of the arteries of the heart and the need for their biological "repair". The most frequent reason for such weakening is impaired production of collagen – the building material of the blood vessel wall – which is caused by insufficient intake of micronutrients in our diet, such as vitamin C, Lysine, vitamin B6, copper and others. If these nutrients are not supplied, then cholesterol starts depositing in the arteries which with time leads to clogging of the blood flow, heart attacks and strokes. The cholesterol-based theory of heart disease does not explain why we are getting heart attacks but not nose or other organs attacks, why blockages occur in the arteries not veins, or many other aspects of heart disease. This theory only serves as a marketing tool for cholesterol lowering drugs."

You can lower your risk of heart attack and stroke by eating less salt. This also lowers high cholesterol levels. There are no adverse effects from reducing salt/sodium intake.

Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

About fighting serious illnesses without the use of prescribed drugs. - I favour Dr Matthias Rath's nutritional approach.

You may like to avoid the risks of adverse side-effects from prescribed drug treatment. You may like to read about drugfree methods of fighting serious illnesses - methods recommended by a physician?

In that case, I suggest you visit this website: http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/ - I feel sure you will find it interesting.

As a steroid victim, I concur with Dr Rath's philosophy about the benefits of avoiding prescribed drugs and their harmful side-effects and the further benefits of optimising nutrition.

No US antiretroviral monopoly - US authorities have not sought antiretroviral drugs market monopoly, says Mark Dybul, outgoing US Aids coordinator.

Dybul denies US antiretroviral monopoly

Extract:

"American authorities have not sought to monopolise the antiretroviral drugs market, the outgoing US global Aids coordinator Mark Dybul has stated.

He refuted claims that the US has monopolised the market to the point where the drugs have become too expensive for African countries to purchase for their Aids population.

Many have said that the US has blocked the production of generic antiretrovirals, resulting in the cost of the drugs staying high."

If you have HIV+ status and are unable to obtain antiretroviral drugs, or would prefer not to take these drugs anyway, you may like to minimise your salt/sodium intake. - A 40 year old man who is HIV+, and whom I have been advising for many years, chose not to take these drugs although as a British citizen he had/has been offered them on the NHS. Instead, he has optimised his diet and he takes vitamin and mineral supplements, and he has eliminated all avoidable salt/sodium from his food intake. - He has been HIV+ since the early or mid-80s and he is still alive...(o: - and still working (part time now) and still quite well most of the time. And of course since he doesn't take the drugs, he doesn't suffer from the adverse side-effects of the drugs...(o:

His friends who had HIV/Aids, and who took the antiretroviral drugs, have all died...)o: - He believes, and so do I, that optimal nutrition is far more useful than drugs in combating HIV, and that the antiretrovirals benefit the drug companies rather than the patients who take the drugs.

You can read further about this on Dr Rath's website: http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/
