BBC1's Birdsong last night was so disappointing
I had been looking forward to seeing Birdsong on TV last night but found it very disappointing. So much of the dialogue was inaudible and was scarcely improved by turning up the volume. The problems were poor enunciation and a reluctance to open the lips. Most of the time Eddie Redmayne's face was completely immobile and rendered the pace of many scenes leaden. I shall make a point of avoiding any future productions in which he stars.

I watched Hannah Jones' programme "Fix My Fat Head" last Tuesday evening on BBC1 and sent her an email afterwards with the information she needed, but I've not received a reply.
Hannah, "journalist, newspaper columnist, a published author" (see WalesOnLine), weighs over 20 stone, and her programme explored her thoughts and feelings about being obese and her unsuccessful efforts to lose weight by various means - hypnotherapy, Lighterlife, LifeShapers, psychotherapy...
It was great to see a programme about being fat that wasn't being presented by a patronising slim presenter or guru. Hannah Jones has a beautiful, mobile face and an engaging self-deprecating wit.
Unfortunately, like most of humanity, Hannah has been conditioned to believe that for a fat person to lose weight it is necessary to eat fewer calories and exercise more. Since this advice does not work, however hard she tries and however hungry and tired her efforts make her, she will not be able to succeed in losing weight by these methods.
I visited the WalesOnLine website and emailed Hannah from there. This is the message I sent:
and I gave my name and address and phone number. I've been disappointed not to receive a reply. I don't know whether Hannah has seen my message or not. I expect she received a great many messages after people saw her programme. - Maybe she will see my message here. - I do hope so. If she sees it and follows the advice in it and on my website she will lose weight easily, safely and rapidly. If she carries on trying to lose weight by dieting she will lose her looks and lose her health...)o:

I watched Look North on BBC1 this evening and heard about Lee Jardine's problem of manboobs (gynaecomastia)
The BBC has a webpage about Lee: - Man's plea for breast reduction
Gynaecomastia is one of the health problems that can be greatly reduced by eating less salt. - Lee says he is considering taking antidepressants. - I do hope he decides not to, because antidepressants often actually cause gynaecomastia and might, in Lee's case, worsen it. - Lee says he is desperate. - If you know Lee, suggest to him that he visit my website and read about how avoiding salt and salty food would help with the manboobs problem and with his problem of overweight.

I've just been watching the first episode of "Cranford" on BBC1 and I envy the healthcare received by the carpenter who broke his arm in the 1840s...
The carpenter had his broken right arm dealt with as speedily as the young doctor could manage it, and in consequence he did not suffer radial nerve damage and so was able to use his hand again. Nearly two centuries later, having broken my right humerus at the end of August, I am still unable to use my right hand and lift my right wrist and am in very great pain with it. This is because I had to wait 12 and a half days before my arm was operated upon, and during that long, intensely painful time the hand and lower arm became extremely swollen because of the splint I had to wear, and the radial nerve was damaged. I now have to have carers come to help me get washed and dressed and undressed...)o:
There's been wonderful progress in healthcare since the 1840s? - Not in my opinion... - Not in the NHS, at any rate...)o:
Patient welfare has a low priority in the NHS...)o:

I was horrified to see on TV the poor hygiene and the falsifying of the dates on out-of-date food in two Tesco and Sainsbury's supermarkets...)o:
I watched the BBC TV whistleblower programme last evening. It was about unhygienic practices in a Tesco supermarket and a Sainsbury's supermarket, and also unhygienic practices at a Ready Meals supplier. The bad practice was observed and recorded by undercover reporters working as supermarket staff.
I already do not buy/eat ready meals (because they are high in salt), but if I did, this programme would have put me off forever, 'cos I'm not keen on catching salmonella...)o: - But also, the 'fresh' meat and 'fresh' fish being sold in these particular supermarkets could clearly not be trusted actually to be fresh, because sell by dates were being falsified...
You can read an account by one of the undercover journalists here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6676345.stm and you can view the programme online from a link on that webpage for a week following programme transmission, which was Tuesday 22nd May.
