Come on, Asthma UK! - Tell people about the safe, easy to reduce their symptoms! - Just eat less salt and salty food!
Lowering
Salt Intake reduces symptoms and increases lung function in people
whose asthma is usually triggered by doing sports and physical activity
This article appeared on the website of Asthma UK
almost 4 years ago. They don't seem to have given much publicity to the
benefits of lowering salt/sodium intake since then. - It seems a shame
not to.
I suggest that AsthmaUK could have a page of low salt meal suggestions or recipes. This simple, safe, drug-free change to eating habits produces massive health benefits, not just to people with asthma. - Come on, Asthma UK! - Get telling people about how they can boost their lung function by cutting down on salt!

Do you have an enlarged heart? - The good news is that it can be reduced in size by avoiding salt and salty food.
You have probably heard that cutting down on the amount of salt/sodium that you eat lowers your risk of a stroke or a heart attack, and lowers high blood pressure/hypertension. - But it has many more benefits for health as well, including reducing the size of an enlarged heart - and that means your breathing will be easier too...(o:

Hormone link to both obesity and asthma
Hormone linked to obesity and asthma - Guardian
Extract:
"Scientists have discovered a link between obesity and asthma which may explain why overweight people are up to twice as likely to develop the respiratory condition.
The finding suggests there is a common underlying process behind many cases of combined obesity and asthma, leading doctors to believe it could pave the way for new drugs to treat both conditions.
The rapid rise in obesity in recent decades has been mirrored by a steep increase in asthma, but this is the first study to find evidence that the two could be linked.
Asthma is caused by an overreaction of the immune system, where cells that evolved in humans long ago to fight parasites such as flukes and worms instead react to grass pollen, house dust mites and pet allergens. In the lungs, these cells, known as Th2 cells, cause inflammation which triggers asthma.
Researchers at the Centre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma at King's College London extracted Th2 immune cells from the blood of obese asthmatics and found that as well as causing asthma, they secreted high levels of a hormone, promelanin. The hormone is usually found in the brain, where it plays a crucial role in governing appetite."
Well I've been stating for years on my website www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk that there is a link between obesity and asthma and that both are improved by eating less salt/sodium. - It isn't rocket science, after all. - Both cause breathing problems, and breathing problems are reduced by reducing salt intake. It would be so helpful if people with asthma could be told about the improvement salt reduction would make for them - but doctors are always wanting to prescribe more drugs...)o:

Breathing exercises can help with asthma
Breathing exercises can cut asthma symptoms by a third - Independent
Extract:
"A breathing technique for asthma sufferers developed 40 years ago has been proved for the first time to cut symptoms of breathlessness by a third.
The Papworth method is a sequence of breathing and relaxation exercises devised at Papworth hospital, Cambridgeshire, in the 1960s.
Patients and physiotherapists believed it worked, but it fell out of favour among Britain's five million asthma sufferers who came to rely on medication. Now, researchers have demonstrated its effectiveness in what is believed to be the first randomised, controlled trial of the method - the gold standard in medical research.
The technique is aimed at curbing "over-breathing" - the rapid shallow breaths at the top of the chest taken by people when they are under stress. The aim is to encourage gentler, more relaxed breathing, using the abdomen and diaphragm rather than the chest.
Elizabeth Holloway, a research physiotherapist with more than 30 years' clinical experience, who led the study, said: "It is about breathing like Richard Burton [the Welsh actor] who delivered his lines from deep down in his abdomen. It is not just psychological, it is physical - patients need to learn to drop their shoulders, relax their tummies and breathe calmly and appropriately. They gain greater control and confidence.""

Snorers at greater risk of heart attack...
Snoring 'may raise risk of heart attacks' - Telegraph
Extract:
"Loud snorers who have difficulty breathing in their sleep could be at a greater risk of a heart attack, a study claims.
Researchers found that such sleepers produce less nitric oxide, a gas which opens up arteries to increase blood flow and helps to keep blood pressure at a healthy level.
The study was based on 14 patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), a condition that causes breathing difficulties while sleeping as well as loud snoring and often choking."
Actually. both snoring and heart attacks (as well as sleep apnoea and breathing difficulties and many other health problems) usually share a common cause - obesity - and since obesity is caused by fluid retention/salt sensitivity, both snoring and the risk of heart attack can be safely reduced by cutting down on salt and salty food as this reduces fluid retention.
