"Potentially lethal cancers can continue to spread because parts of the tumours are left in half of cases, researchers believe.
The findings follow a government drive for more skin cancer patients to be treated outside hospitals. Of more than 100,000 operations conducted in the NHS each year, an estimated fifth are now carried out by GPs.
The report, compiled by the British Association of Dermatologists, found that guidelines by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence were frequently ignored."
