Some doctors are making the absurd claim that Ritalin could help with Britain's obesity crisis.

In this Telegraph article we read that doctors are making the absurd claim that Ritalin could help with Britain's obesity crisis. - Ritalin is one of the controversial psychotropic drugs that have harmed so many children unfortunate enough to have had them prescribed as treatment for ADHD, a putative illness used as a 'diagnosis' by some psychiatrists with strong connections with the drug industry and the drug industry's money. See http://aboutsalt.blogspot.com/2008/06/for-years-harvard-child-psychiatrist.html and http://aboutsalt.blogspot.com/2009/03/read-about-senator-chuck-grassley-of.html

The Telegraph article says: "Doctors behind the latest findings claim a chemical imbalance in the brain caused by undiagnosed ADHD prevents severely obese patients from having the willpower to lose weight."

This is a nonsensical, completely false claim. - Obesity is not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain; it is caused by fluid retention, in turn caused by sodium retention, frequently itself caused as a side-effect of some other powerful prescription drug! - Obese people have more than enough health problems to cope with, without foolish doctors prescribing them pharmaceutical junk that will harm them further.

Obesity is easily, safely and swiftly reduced by giving up dieting completely, since it is harmful and does not work, and instead concentrating on cutting down on salt/sodium and salty food in order to reduce the fluid retention.

Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better! Restaurants, sandwich chains and coffee shops will soon start to display calorie counts on their menus in a misguided attempt to fight UK's obesity.

Restaurants to display calorie counts on menus to help obesity crisis
article in the Telegraph

Extract:

"Within the next six months many well known chains, including Pizza Hut and Pret a Manger, will start to prominently display the calorie content of all of its food.

The idea is being pushed by the Food Standards Agency, the Government's food regulator, which wants all outlets from fish and chip shops to Michelin-starred restaurants to give details of what is in their meals.

If it is a success, the FSA is considering going even further by asking restaurants to publish so-called 'traffic light' labels on their menus, which would highlight in red if a dish was too salty, sugary or fatty."

Knowledge of calorie content will not help anyone to become less obese. Providing this information will be just another colossal waste of time and money. - To lose excess weight it is helpful to know the salt/sodium content, not the calories.

Obesity is not caused by eating fat or sugar or too many calories. Nor is it caused by inactivity/laziness. It is caused by weakened veins leading to fluid retention in the bloodstream, i.e. sodium retention and water/fluid retention, and thereby to excess weight/obesity.

The way to reduce/prevent obesity is to avoid salt and salty food, and to avoid prescription drugs as far as possible because these are a major cause of the the blood vessel damage that precedes the salt sensitivity/fluid retention.

Why not help with disseminating the truth? - If you have any friends who are overweight and know from experience that dieting does not work, tell them about my blog or send them a link to my website. - Better still, tell your MP about my website. - I'm afraid my own MP is as much use as a chocolate teapot...)o:

3 out of 4 British adults 'are too fat' but with unerring precision, obesity experts target the wrong problem yet again.

Three out of four British adults 'are too fat'
Article in the Telegraph

Extracts:

"Dr Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, the Harvard-trained associate professor of Medicine at America's Mayo Clinic, told delegates at the National Obesity Forum conference in London: "I believe that the UK's obesity problem is significantly worse than we thought.

"Our research has proved that one out of every five subjects with normal BMI has excess body fat, and that these people are at risk from metabolic abnormalities that lead to diabetes and eventually, to heart disease.

"Therefore, it is important to correctly identify these patients from a public health standpoint and be more precise about the changing conceptualisation of obesity."

He went on: "It is currently reported that 66 per cent of UK adults are either overweight or obese but based on our research, it is more likely to be at least 75 per cent. This clearly highlights that health care professionals must adopt body composition monitoring at an individual level to avoid mis-classifying patients with excess body fat as non-obese. If we do, we miss the opportunity to intervene and reduce the health risk in such individuals.""

"Dr Lopez-Jimenez concluded that doctors should use a technique called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis to work out how fat their patients are, rather than BMI. By sending an electric current through the body, this allows experts to detect when it encounters fat tissue and so calculate their body fat percentage."

Fluid retention in people who have become sensitive to salt is the cause of obesity, and it is fluid retention that needs to be addressed, yet it is rarely if ever mentioned or considered by these highly-paid clueless, useless experts...)o:

Pretty obvious really, isn't it? - If you are suffering from fluid retention/water retention, you must be overweight. - Right? - It is salt/sodium that holds that excess liquid in your body. - Cut down on salt and the fluid retention will get less - and so, just like magic, you will lose some of your excess weight...(o: - without drugs, without hunger, without dieting, without endangering your health, without counting calories...

Spam processed meat and corned beef fuel South Pacific obesity crisis because of their high salt content.

Spam at heart of South Pacific obesity crisis

Extract from the Telegraph:

""Even if you go into a store in a remote village you'll find shelves of Spam and corned beef," said Dr Jan Pryor, the director of research at the Fiji School of Medicine.

"In the past it was unusual for anyone to have a stroke under 50, now people are having strokes in their twenties and thirties. You see it every day."

Figures from the World Health Organisation show that Pacific island nations make up eight of the world's 10 most obese countries.

"What we have in this country is a raging epidemic. We have 6,000 to 8,000 cases of diabetes out of a population of 53,000 people," said Carl Hacker, the director of economic policy and planning in the Marshall Islands.

"What is unfolding here is a physical disaster and a fiscal disaster."

The single-island nation of Nauru, which faces economic disaster in the wake of its Australian-run refugee detention centre closing down last week, heads the list with 94.5 per cent of people older than 15 defined as obese.

Similar problems are repeated across the South Pacific. "

To lose weight obese people need to avoid eating salt and salty food.
